We need to tell our child what behaviour we expect before going into a situation, particularly if the situation is new or unfamiliar.

 By having a set of rules for when you are at home, and another for when you are not at home, you can quickly signal what behaviour is expected in different situations.

When giving your child options, try to give them either one or two choices rather than an open question. This simple idea will help to reduce unnecessary mini-conflicts in everyday life.

Try to address a poor behaviour early. If you do this it is like pulling out a single weed in your garden - quick and easy. If you don't deal with poor behaviours early they can quickly become your child's habit, which is like allowing weeds to grow and multiply in your garden. This takes a lot more effort to fix.

 Notice a small little thing your child has done well, tell them how great it was, and finish off with a positive global statement about who they are.
